In the first days of September/February, with the start of the new semester, loads of international students will come to UPM to experience Erasmus life, and there isn't a better way to start it than a Welcome Week to meet them all! Here are some of the activities that you can expect:

  • A Welcome Party for all international students in Madrid
  • Our very own "Jueves de Cañas"
  • Different City Tours around Madrid
  • Hikings through Madrid's nature
  • Weekly sports meetings: running, basket, volleyball...
  • Language exchanges
  • Visits to museums and other landmarks

Stay tuned for the calendar, coming soon!

Get used to Madrid public transport

Here are some tips:

  • Get your public transport card. If you're under 26, it's 8,00€ a month for all Metro, Cercanias trains and urban buses, including buses to Toledo or Guadalajara. You can order it online or ask for an appointment to get it immediately in this LINK (in spanish). The card costs 4€.
  • In a few weeks you will know the metro system by heart. But until then, here's a MAP. Definitely the best way to get around in Madrid.
  • If you need to travel a bit further, cercanías trains reach all the Madrid region: MAP. The service is not the best, and delays are frequent. You can download the official app here: Android / iOSHikings through Madrid's nature
  • Urban buses can be useful sometimes, they reach every corner of the city. They are run by the public company EMT, which has a useful interactive MAP and an APP you can use to check arrival times, save favourite stops and is quite precise.Language exchanges
  • BiciMAD is the public bike-sharing platform of Madrid. You can pair it with your public transport card for a very cheap price. However, if you come from a more bike-friendly city, don't expect Madrid drivers to be as gentle here. Bike lines mapWebsite.
  • Floating transport: Madrid has a decent amount of shared electric scooters, motorbikes and electric cars from a lot of companies for shared use. Download their apps and use them right away!

As you can see, the public transport options are plenty, making the choice of the optimal route a complex problem. Google maps, or apps like Citymapper or Moovit know all the options better than us!
